My Approach

"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards"

Soren Kierkegaard

I am an integrative psychotherapist whose clinical work is heavily rooted in psychodynamic theory. I believe that the way we relate to others is heavily influenced by our past experiences and that our responses are often the result of deeply unconscious processes. My aim is to make the unconscious come into conscious awareness by exploring past and present relationships and events. Feelings, thoughts, images and even dreams can be analysed to gain deeper understanding of how you relate to yourself and to others. We will work together through an alliance of collaboration and trust to untangle any confusing feeling or thoughts and behavioural patterns.  This will help us to gain insight into how past events might have affected your present reality thus, helping you rediscover your capacity to make meaningful choices that are right for you.

My Approach: About Me

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

In Psychodynamic therapy, the emphasis is on understanding the origin of emotional distress and gaining awareness of how our internal (often unconscious) conflicts play out in our lives. In psychodynamic therapy, one’s past, especially early family relationships, are explored in order to understand how these dynamics influence one’s current life/relationships and behaviours. This awareness can lead to a decrease in distress and other negative emotions, and improve overall functioning. As your therapist I will help you to process difficult feelings by allowing their expression in a supportive environment, by putting words to feelings, and by providing interpretations of the causes of negative emotions.
